Project made possible with support from Creative Saskatchewan’s Business Capacity Grant Program.
I recently had the amazing opportunity (thank you to Creative Saskatchewan) to attend the Southern Graphics Conference International in Portland, OR! I have attended this conference once before, as a student, when it was hosted in St. Louis, MI. This year, as an artist working in Print Media, I found the sessions to be of great interest and a great help in building my knowledge and skills as well as networking with other artists.
The highlight of the trip was a visit to the CC Stern Type Foundry. They are a volunteer based organization and very knowledgeable and passionate about letterpress. The Foundry has working linotype and monotype machines. I had never seen these beautiful machines in action until then.
Another great spot was Flight64, the only non-profit print studio in Portland.
The studio had a nice layout and the people were very inviting. Lots of great prints on display. The 45 minute bus ride to the north-side was definitely worth it.
Next year the conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. I will definitely be checking it out.
